Ole Miss Football: Chad Kelly To Start In Broncos Final Preseason Game
For Ole Miss football fans who love our NFL Rebels Chad Kelly has been fun to watch in the 2018 NFL Preseason getting progressively better with each game.
Whether you are simply a Ole Miss football fan who enjoys seeing former Rebels succeed in the NFL, a Swag hater or a Kelly critic really doesn’t matter. Thursday night either you’ll watch or hear about Chad Kelly having another huge moment in the 2018 NFL Preseason. Ole Miss football fans and even a few of the others listed above knew he would find some degree of success should he simply get his moment to shine as the Denver Broncos signal caller.
As early as late May there had already been whispers of how much Kelly had developed. Kelly was soon getting media attention because of practices where he displayed the athleticism which he was so famous for at Ole Miss. He was making his reads and hitting his targets and just had that it factor. Sure enough in the first preseason game Kelly began it as No.3 on the depth chart and had a really impressive performance. In fact it was good enough that he moved up past Paxton Lynch on the depth chart to No.2.

In Kelly’s second game it was even more of the same and he actually looked better than game-one. Then he backed it up again with a solid third outing. So far in the preseason Kelly has completed 28 of 41 passes for 340 yards and 3 TDs with just 1 INT. Of course the haters and the critics will beat “but preseason numbers don’t mean anything” in.the ground when they mean everything for a guy drafted as ‘Mr Irrelevant’. It also means something for the No.3 QB Paxton Lynch.
Thursday night the Broncos will face the Arizona Cardinals and Kelly will have his last preseason performance before rosters are trimmed down to 53 players. With the Broncos clearly indicating no intention of Case Keenum playing, Chad Kelly will get to start and play the entire first half and Lynch will begin the second half. We can expect Chad to have another impressive outing.
OHT Likes Kelly’s Chances
At this point I believe we can all feel safe to assume if Chad Kelly just steps on the field Thursday night he will be the better of the two QBs by the end of the game. I really hate to even begin to imagine how bad Kelly would have to play for Lynch to have another shot at the No.2 spot for the Broncos. While at one point Elway had proclaimed 100% of his support behind Paxton Lynch, I believe this preseason was enough for Elway to see the writing on the wall. Everybody who has watched a fair amount of the Broncos preseason knows Kelly may actually be the best QB on the team.
Will Chad continue to play the way he has in the first three preseason games? Kelly should be able to maintain the head of steam he has created so far in the preseason. When Kelly gets in his groove he is a beast at the QB position and produces. Well it appears Kelly has certainly found his groove and the no.2 spot on the Broncos final 53-player roster. Chad Kelly will be back in action Thursday night as they face the Arizona Cardinals. Be sure to check back for more Swag Kelly preseason updates.
