No.7 Arkansas Razorbacks (1-1)

Week-two saw the Arkansas Razorbacks suffer a disappointing 34-27 road loss to Colorado State. The Razorbacks had picked up a 55-20 win in week-one over Eastern Illinois and may have simply underestimated CSU. Arkansas has a good offense and the Morris system can be effective but the Razorback defense is sketchy. The Razorbacks defense has allowed 54 points and 834 total yards thru two games giving up 667 yards passing. The Razorbacks have allowed 6 TDs with 5 coming thru the air. On the bright side the Hogs are only allowing 83.5 ypg on the ground. There is obviously a lot for Morris to work with but how quickly it all comes together remains to be seen. Arkansas will play host to North Texas (2-0) this Saturday.

No.6 Ole Miss Rebels (2-0)

In week-two the Ole Miss Rebels picked up a 76-41 win over FCS Southern Illinois. It was a poor defensive effort in the first half which allowed SIU to take a 38-35 lead in at halftime. The Rebels defense was a totally different group in the second half allowing only 3 points. Right now I know there are Rebels fans scratching their heads wondering how the Rebels with the No.8 offense in the nation could be power-ranked so low? It’s easy. We also have the 128th ranked defense in the nation. It’s easy to dismiss the first half defensive performance this past Saturday to sleepwalking or looking ahead to Bama but you can’t blame the 128th ranking on two quarters. Thru the first two games the Rebels have put up 1,198 yards of total offense while the defense has allowed 1,115 yards giving up 710 yards thru the air and 405 yards on the ground. The Rebels have their hands full in week-three as No.1 Alabama (2-0) comes to Oxford.

No.5 (11) LSU Tigers (2-0)

Week-two for the LSU Tigers saw a 31-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana. The Tigers were good enough in their 33-17 season opening win over Miami to garner a No.11 spot entering week-two but failed to live up to the ranking. Ed Orgeron has a great defense in Baton Rouge which has allowed just 596 yards of offense giving up only 148 yards on the ground and only 1 rushing TD thru two games. The Tigers weakness lies on the offensive side of the ball. The Tigers have only managed to produce 631 yards of total offense. LSU has a very capable quarterback who has shown he can manage the offense but Orgeron will have to find more offensive production to compete in the SEC West or beyond. The Tigers will have a tough test this weekend as they travel to No.7 Auburn (2-0).
