Sunday it was announced coach Matt Luke has added a new coach to the Ole Miss football staff with the hiring of Calvin Magee as tight-end coach.
Since the season ended Ole Miss football coach Matt Luke has been busy filling in some of the missing pieces. Despite some Ole Miss fans still not sold on the choices for the vacant defensive and offensive coordinator positions most believe they were great hires. Naturally when you bring in new coordinators there will likely be more changes and new additions to the staff.
With the departure of Maurice Harris as tight end coach we expected a new hire for the position. Sunday Matt Luke announced the hiring of former NFL tight end Calvin Magee to fill the vacancy. After a season of playing offense largely without the apparent use of great TE talent Magee is another great hire for Matt Luke and the Rebels.

Originally from New Orleans, coach Calvin Magee is a 23 year coaching veteran who has a very impressive resume. After an outstanding college career as tight end for the Southern University Jaguars as a First Team All-American for two seasons, Magee played five seasons in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Magee who began his coaching career at South Florida as TE coach, RB coach and rushing coordinator. After USF Magee was at Pittsburg serving as both assistant head coach and OC.
Magee then served at West Virginia and Michigan where he was RBs coach, assistant coordinator and assistant head coach under new Ole Miss offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez who was head coach at both schools.
Magee Will Be Good
For coach Matt Luke, Ross Bjork and Rich Rodriguez the hiring of a new TE coach was huge. Magee was the acting New Mexico offensive coordinator before being hired by Ole Miss. Magee brings a wealth of ‘spread’ knowledge to Oxford having served as long as he did under Rich Rod who is widely known as the creator of the spread offense.
Ole Miss football coach Matt Luke and AD Ross Bjork have made some really great hires and Luke has taken the experience approach with his hires. Regardless of the outcome of 2019 so far we have been able to watch the future of Ole Miss football come together. OHT wants to welcome coach Calvin Magee and his family to Oxford. Hotty Toddy!
