Ole Miss Football: Which 2020 Prospect Pulls Trigger Next?

Over the past week there has been a lot to discuss when it comes to Ole Miss football recruiting but now we wonder who might be next?

Sunday coach Matt Luke and Ole Miss football landed commitments from both 3* ILB Austin Keys and 3* ATH Kyjuan Herndon. Monday the Rebels kept the ball rolling with the commitment of JUCO ILB Daylen Gill. The three sudden commitments brought the 2020 Ole Miss recruiting class to 4 commitments and moved the Rebels to No.38 nationally and No.11 in the SEC.

While those numbers may not seem to be very impressive they will certainly get better as we get closer to the early signing period and more players commit to Matt Luke and the Rebels. As of now the Rebels have made offers to 237 players across the nation with a number of those having already committed to other schools.

Thanks to the recruiting tools on 247Sports.com we can break down those 237 offers into different categories such as ‘top targets’, ‘high choices’ and ‘interested’. For now we take a look at a player from each category and see who we think could be the next 2020 prospect might be next to pull the trigger for Matt Luke and Ole Miss football.

Top Targets

There are 16 ‘top targets’ which currently hold offers from Ole Miss football for the 2020 recruiting cycle. So far Matt Luke has already landed 1 commitment from this list with the hard verbal of 3* OT Eli Acker and we can believe there will be more commitments from this list. Will the next commitment for the Rebels be a ‘top target’? Maybe so.

One player OHT is watching and believe could be a hard commit is 4* ATH Jeremiah Pegues of Oxford High School. At 6’3 and 260lbs Pegues has a 247Sports Composite of 0.9277 and is ranked as the No.11 ATH nationally and No.3 player in Mississippi. Pegues also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State and Southern Miss but lists Ole Miss as his favorite.

High Choice

3* RB Javonta Leatherwood of Central School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama is another 2020 prospect OHT is eyeing to make a commitment to Matt Luke and the Rebels. Leatherwood is listed 6’0 and 180lbs and at this time doesn’t a 247Sports Composite but is ranked as the No.66 RB nationally and the No.40 player in Alabama. Recruited by coach Derrick Nix Leatherwood also holds offers from Middle Tennessee State, South Alabama, Southern Miss and Troy.

Interested

3* S Janari Dean is another player OHT is watching to make a commitment to Ole Miss in the near future. Out of South Panola High School Dean is listed at 6’0 and 190lbs and has a 247Sports Composite of 0.8627. Dean ranks as the No.39 safety nationally and the No.12 player in Mississippi. Dean also holds offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Indiana but thanks to Yancey Porter of OMSpirit we know Dean has been busy in Oxford watching Rebels practices and building relationships with the coaching staff.
