Ole Miss Basketball: Rebels rally to take down Auburn in OT

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball were hoping to stay in the win column Saturday when they traveled to Auburn and found a thrilling overtime win.

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball (10-8, 5-6) traveled down on The Plains to face off against the Auburn Tigers (10-10, 4-7) Saturday. The Rebels entered the weekend matchup coming off a huge 52-50 win over No.10 Tennessee Tuesday night. Auburn was coming off a 91-86 home loss to Georgia.

The Rebels needed to stay in the win column and they did behind a career-best 30 points from Romello White combined with a season-high 26 points and the buzzer-beater in OT from Devontae Shuler. For the second consecutive game, the Rebels came from behind to get the victory. The Rebels were behind by as much as 14 points against the Tigers but found the offense they have been looking for. As a team, the Rebels shot 33 of 66 or .500 from the field while the Tigers shot 30 of 63 or .476 from the floor. From 3-point range, the Rebels shot 6 of 19 or .316 while Auburn hit 12 of 29 or .414 from beyond the arc. From the free-throw line, the Rebels hit 14 of 17 or .824 of their shots. Auburn hit 12 of 18 or .667 of their shots from the charity stripe.

The Rebels outrebounded the Tigers 35-34 while scoring 14 second-chance points off 12 offensive rebounds. Auburn scored 18 second-chance points off 13 offensive rebounds. The Rebels forced 17 turnovers and scored 17 points off those. Auburn forced 14 Ole Miss turnovers and scored 10 points off those. The Rebels outscored the Tigers 44-36 in the paint.

Leading all Rebels was Romello White. White had his second double-double of the season with 30 points and 10 boards. White also had 1 steal, 1 assist, and 4 blocked shots. Following White was Devontae Shuler with 26 points. Shuler also had 2 steals, 4 assists, and 6 rebounds. Also scoring in double-digits was Robert Allen with 12 points. Allen also had 1 blocked shot, 1 assist, and 5 rebounds.

Next up was Jarkel Joiner with 8 points, 4 steals, and 1 assist. Luis Rodriguez and Sammy Hunter each had 5 points. Rodriguez added 1 steal, 3 assists, and 9 rebounds. Hunter had 1 steal and 2 assists off the Ole Miss bench. Matthew Murrell had 2 rebounds off the bench.

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball will be coming back to Oxford for a home-home series for two games. Their first will be against the No.18 Missouri Tigers (13-3, 6-3).
