There were a lot of things that went wrong in the fourth quarter of Ole Miss vs. Georgia. It might be the shots Lane Kiffin called, or in the way that the Ole Miss squad executed the calls, but not scoring in the final quarter cost the Rebels the game that broke their undefeated streak.
It was a tough one to digest, but it was nothing the Rebels will find hard to move on from.
In his press conference on Monday, Kiffin explained how Georgia was not a statement game for the Rebels; just that they fell behind on making plays when they needed to be made.
"I mean, I just learned that we didn’t finish when we had a chance to. You know, and that’s me too. Maybe we should have run the ball a little more there in the last couple of drives, you know, and take the pressure off Trinidad," Kiffin said.
"But this isn’t like this statement game. I think somebody asked during the week, is this a statement game? You know, like, well, one team’s beat them there in five years, you know. So it’s not like because we lost to Georgia in a one-score game that we were ahead of two scores, you know, now all of a sudden our program has got to be revamped and relooked at."
The Rebels had already undergone major revamping this off-season and found some true crown jewels like Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy.
If anything, this roster would be a dream come true for any Rebel fan from 2023.
"So if you want that feeling, spin back two years ago when we were sitting here, and they played like that on both sides of the ball against us. And we had to really, really change some things in our program."
All those changes have led Kiffin's squad to a point where losing against a program like Georgia feels like an opportunity they just fell short of.
