Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin was sure that Florida QB DJ Lagway could still be a serious problem for the Rebels this Saturday.
Besides Lane Kiffin, all eyes would be on whether Lagway starts at quarterback vs. Ole Miss after Billy Gonzales benched him last week against Kentucky.
Reminiscing how Florida pulled the upset of the season against them last season, Kiffin explained how Lagway continues to be an elite QB.
"I think DJ represents their whole team — extremely talented, capable of playing at an elite level. At times, when you watch film, you say, “Man, these guys are as good as anybody.” DJ’s like that," Kiffin said in his press conference on Monday.
"He played great against us last year. Anytime you’ve got a guy with an elite arm who’s hard to tackle and can run over you — that’s a problem."
After slowly spiraling throughout this season, Lagway's numbers dropped to an all-time-low against Kentucky in Week 11.
In their 38-7 loss against Kentucky, Lagway threw three interceptions. The last time his numbers were this bad was, surprisingly, against Ole Miss when he passed for 180 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Despite their QB having a really bad day, the Gators held off Ole Miss the last time they met. What's to say they can't do that again?
Of course, this would be only their third game since they underwent a grave head coaching change. Their struggle is evident from them losing both their games without Napier, and benching Lagway, who was initially a Heisman candidate early in the season.
"They’ve got elite talent on both sides of the ball. We’ve got to be ready to play against a really dangerous team," Kiffin added.
If there is one thing that Kiffin would be certain about, it would be perfecting their execution offensively and defensively, which was the main reasons they suffered their only loss this season against Georgia.
Ole Miss takes on Florida on Nov. 15 in a late kickoff at the Vaught-Hemingway.
