And there we go again with another school making a wild card appearance in the drawn-out Lane Kiffin circus orchestrated by none other than the mastermind Jimmy Sexton.
Just when we thought Kiffin's decision had been whittled down to LSU and Ole Miss, Alabama came along through the grapevine.
After Alabama suffered an ugly upset at the hands of Oklahoma last weekend, somehow Kalen DeBoer's name started making the rounds. The latest rumor mill has DeBoer considering Penn State if the season comes down to a third loss.
And losing the Iron Bowl would be so much worse than a three-loss season. It will make DeBoer Tuscaloosa's modern day Ray Perkins.
Lane Kiffin (back) to Alabama?
With that talk came the inevitable possibility of the Crimson Tide vacancy opening up. And as the current trends suggest, where there is a college football coaching vacancy, there's Kiffin's name.
"Truly, Kiffin wants to be at Alabama, his rejuvenated career’s second dream job after he was fired from his original love, USC," AL.com's Joseph Goodman explains.
"If Alabama loses to Auburn on Saturday night, and misses the College Football Playoff, then Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer could pack his bags for Penn State."
The primary question here should be whether Alabama would hire Kiffin?
"College football has evolved and Kiffin has matured. Alabama, meanwhile, can’t figure out how to run the ball in the SEC and lost to Oklahoma at home," Goodman writes.
"Why should Kiffin settle for LSU, Florida or Ole Miss this week when there are still games to be played? Can’t Kiffin do better? Alabama is his ultimate prize, and, after all, Sark held out for Texas."
If that does turn out to be the case, Saturday will definitely not have the answer several programs and fanbases are expecting.
With Alabama, Kiffin has a chance to plot an even crazier stunner than at Florida or LSU.
