Ole Miss AD Keith Carter's Lane Kiffin update was equal parts anti-climactic and frustrating

When Ole Miss AD Keith Carter announced his meeting with Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss fans finally thought they were getting an update on the Rebels' future they very much deserve.

Of course, that didn't happen as Kiffin continued to duck a commitment to the program he has been coaching for the past six seasons.

Instead, all Ole Miss fans got from Carter's update was what they already knew about Kiffin's decision: it's not coming out until after the Egg Bowl.

It was what you call a textbook anti climax.

And because of that, everyone invested in the whole Kiffin drama, which by now is frankly the whole of college football, was left frustrated.

Paul Finebaum calls Carter's update 'vapid'

Paul Finebaum was one of the first ones to call out Carter for the lack of information in the much-awaited update.

“I’ll be a little more blunt. I don’t think it accomplished anything. It was just a completely vapid statement that meant nothing other than, ‘We had a meeting today, and we’ll tell you in eight days,'” Finebaum said.

“Everybody known to mankind is aware that, after the Egg Bowl, Kiffin has to make a decision."

What made Finebaum even more enraged was Ole Miss's future was still anyone's guess.

Just imagine the outrage the remotely miniscule possibility of Kiffin deciding to stay in Oxford after weeks of media theatrics would cause.

“And, by the way, after that game next Friday, he could easily say he’s staying at Ole Miss and then the Ole Miss fans can be outraged that all of us mean, old media people just made such a big deal about nothing."

"But, it seems like Keith Carter just fed the beast there… I mean, if he had an agreement with Lane Kiffin, he would just gone ahead and said, ‘We met today, and we’ve agreed to a new [contract].”

Egg Bowl might not be an ultimatum, but it sure is the deadline that puts the Kiffin drama guessing game to bed.
