This is not how things are supposed to be going for Ole Miss, as the Rebels are having a dream season. The Rebels are 10-1 on the campaign and with the Egg Bowl up next, there's a great chance they could close out the regular season at 11-1. However, there's also a good chance they're going to have to start looking for a new head coach.
Ole Miss powerless as Lane Kiffin's future poised to leak before his announcement
The Lane Kiffin soap opera is one that should hopefully come to an end, but it's already having a negative impact on the players. Ole Miss, despite being on a bye, dropped one spot to No. 7 in the new rankings. There's also discussion that if Kiffin leaves for LSU or Florida, the Rebels could be penalized too. How on earth is this fair to the players?
Ole Miss drops to No. 7. If Lane Kiffin doesn't coach Rebels in playoff, selection committee could drop Ole Miss 2 spots & send them on road in 1st round, instead of hosting a home game

Lane Kiffin waiting to announce his future is impacting Ole Miss in the CFP rankings
Not long ago, it was revealed that Kiffin will be announcing his decision the Saturday after the Egg Bowl. This is something we're used to seeing from high school recruits when they have three hats on the table ready to pick their college of choice - not exactly what you'd expect from someone like Kiffin.
Can you imagine if on Saturday he lets everyone know that he's leaving Oxford, but then Ole Miss takes a tumble in the new rankings because of it? People would rightfully be upset with that. CFP Committee Chair Hunter Yurachek said the Kiffin situation isn't being discussed, but we're not buying it.
For now, Ole Miss is the No. 7 team in the country and the guys inside of the locker room are doing their best to keep all of their attention on Mississippi State. With that said, it's hard to imagine they're not seeing all of the outside noise and they of course can't be happy about the rankings update. Perhaps if Kiffin handled all of this a bit more gracefully, things would be different for the SEC powerhouse. You've got to feel for the youngsters who are making plays for him each week.
