Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza broke new ground on Saturday night as he secured the Heisman Trophy with 2,362 first-place votes, the first in the history of the Indiana Hoosiers to do so.

It was another landslide victory for Mendoza over Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia (1,435 votes), Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love (719 votes) and Ohio State's Julian Sayin (432 votes).

Mendoza's elite performance all season long called for the un-parallelled accolade. Yet, there was just one complaint that Ole Miss fans had in general of the whole ordeal, for which they have no one to blame but one person.

Ole Miss players did not get enough attention because of Lane Kiffin drama

Chambliss finished No. 8 in the Heisman voting.

The initial Heisman polls had Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss climbing up the charts the quickest. Chambliss' burst of success at the beginning of the initial season felt like a Heisman Trophy player in motion.

Then, however, the Lane Kiffin drama took over. Props to the Ole Miss roster for pulling off a stunning 11-1 season despite the maddening noise, but they ultimately had to pay the price: not enough attention to them as Heisman candidates.

Chambliss didn't start all games this season, but he still racked up stats to match and even eclipse Mendoza's and Sayin's in several aspect.

Chambliss finished his regular season with 3016 yards for 18 touchdowns and just three interceptions.

Mendoza, on the other hand, ended on 2980 yards for 33 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

But merely the yardage is not the sole factor in driving the feeling that Chambliss did not get the attention he deserved.

Chambliss had multiple games where he finished the game off in style with 300+ yards. Meanwhile, Mendoza had one game where he crossed the 300-yard mark against Michigan State, and almost touched the number at 299 yards against Wisconsin.

Even other QB finalists like Julian Sayin had six 300+yard days when he started the whole season, whereas Chambliss had seven 300+yard days when he did not even start the whole season.

The least Chambliss deserved was a seat among the finalists in New York.

Blame it on Kiffin prioritizing a more lavish future that Chambliss did not get the attention he deserved.
