It is beyond surprising how QB Trinidad Chambliss isn't getting more Heisman hype.
Plagued by the Lane Kiffin drama, the Ole Miss Rebels gashed the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a 38-19 win to bring home the third consecutive Egg Bowl.
Quite a lopsided win, frankly, especially when the Rebels are in the thick of the Kiffin circus.
Chambliss and Lacy finished off the night in style once again with their off-the-charts yardage, but it was Chambliss standing true to his words that was the more remarkable part of the matchup.
“I don’t think we’re distracted as a team, quite frankly. I feel like the guys are focused on Mississippi State and whoever we play after that," Chambliss had said just days before the Egg Bowl.
His words were the boost of confidence Ole Miss fans needed since their head coach has made good friends with his silence.
Chambliss not only reinforced their focus, but proved it on-field as well.
The Ferris State transfer once again turned himself into a machine, going 23-for-32 with 359 passing yards for 4 touchdowns and no interceptions.
Star running back Kewan lacy had an equally good day as well, with his 143 rushing yards in 27 carries with a touchdown.
"We are unbothered by anything about next year and fully trusting Coach Kiffin’s leadership to keep us moving toward our goals!" Chambliss had added about the noise affecting the locker room.
The Kiffin decision undoubtedly looms large.
However, today's Egg Bowl performance gave the Rebel nation an added layer of confidence in the Rebels most likely having a blazing College Football Playoff run, with or without Kiffin.
