Ole Miss women's basketball has one final chance to pad its regular-season record with two more wins before making a run in March.
They head to Gainesville on Feb. 26 to take on Florida, coming off a 2-loss streak against ranked SEC opponents LSU and South Carolina.
Although Coach Yo's squad has done enough to stand a chance at March Madness, their loss against South Carolina took a toll on their rankings and, more importantly, confidence.
Cotie McMahon has season-high and season-low in same week
Not only did the Rebels endurea brutal 85-48 beating from the Gamecocks, but their star player Cotie McMahon also suffered her worst night of the season amassing just 2 points in the game.
An even more heartbreaking stat for McMahon was her points from the game in the same week, right before Ole Miss went into a losing spiral.
The one game that the Rebs won out of the four the past week was against Tennessee, whom they faced just before LSU. It was McMahon's best night of the season, as she scored a season-high 39 points.
The contrast in just two losses was jarring.
"I didn't play my best. So I felt like I just owed it to my team. And ultimately to myself. I just knew that I needed to be locked in and I knew that we really needed this win. Um, so I just went out there and just gave it my all," McMahon said in her appearance on SportsCenter earlier last week, back when the LSU and Gamecocks tragedy was still to hit them.
If they needed a win then, the Rebels definitely need a win now.
They have dropped to No. 15 in the NCAA's early Top 16 seeds, and absolutely cannot afford any more losses.
It will be another night of great pressure that Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin will need her team to pull off.
if McMahon does it, and finishes off above 25 points, it will be her regular season redemption right there.
