Either Lane Kiffin is seriously tone-deaf, or he pretends really well to be one when it comes to anything Ole Miss.
It's almost impressive how he always ends up misreading the room when reacting to anything related to his former place. Like his reaction to Pete Golding describing his transition to head coaching role when he got a call from AD Keith Carter on Saturday about Kiffin bailing out on Ole Miss.
"Well done guys," Kiffin said to the video of Golding going into a detailed timeline on Kiffin's exit after almost four and a half months of the actual ordeal.
Ole Miss fans are still debating in the comment section whether Kiffin is seriously clueless or was just button-pushing. Although most of them heavily lean on the latter being the case.
Pete Golding opens up on Lane Kiffin exit timeline
"Saturday night, I got the call from Keith saying, 'Kiff has decided to go elsewhere. Let's meet at 7:30 (Sunday morning)," Golding told Greg McEloy on Always College Football.
"I was like, 'I don't really want to work for somebody else at this point in my career. Let's just do this,'" Golding added.
It was not something Golding had imagined for his future, let alone planned it, but the opportunity "just felt right."
"The timing, it just felt right. It wasn't anything I wanted to ask for, and it just felt right. After five days of being into it I was like, 'Man I wish I would have done this a long time ago.' With the ability to impact people around you and those type of things," Golding confessed.
"I didn't ask how much, I didn't ask how many years. I just went straight over to the building and started recruiting some offensive staff."
The passion that made him say yes is paying off right through the offseason. Recruiting is some of the best in program history, so is the roster depth and talent in the locker room.
And as for Kiffin, innocent or not, he's just pouring gasoline on the fire, ensuring that Sept. 19 turns out to be a spectacle like no other.
