A string of recent commitments has moved Ole Miss up the team recruitment rankings after a drop in June. The Rebels just made five-star talent Jared Smith's top six, alongside several elite schools in the nation.

Alongside his top six, which featured Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina, USC, and Florida State, Smith also confirmed a commitment date for August 3. Alongside some of the top recruiters, Kirby Smart and Hugh Freeze, what chance does Lane Kiffin have of beating them to a commitment from Jared Smith?

Recruiting analysts have South Carolina and Georgia as the two standout schools in his recruitment. However, the Thompson High School prospect out of Hoover, Alabama, has not shown any concrete evidence of where he is heading, which means Ole Miss could still have a chance, though it may be slim.

We may see some crystal ball predictions drop when we get closer to his commitment date. It would be a big statement if Ole Miss could beat out these five schools that are recruiting powerhouses in college football. It is already a statement that they are there, with a shot.

Jared Smith is a major talent from the 2025 recruitment class

A five-star prospect per 247Sports, Jared Smith's size and length stand out when you watch him play. In his film, Smith showcases elite bend and quickness to get past offensive linemen and has a very high ceiling as a pass rusher. Despite the talent, he will need to bulk out during his final year in high school.

247Sports ranked him the No. 2 edge player in the 2025 class and the No.2 ranked player in Alabama. He is also ranked the No. 19 player nationally, and the 247Sports Composite rankings have him as the No.54 player in the nation.
