"I thought our red zone offense showed up about like our student section," was a jab Coach Lane Kiffin felt like he needed to make after their audience let the Ole Miss Rebels down.
The scattered audience at the Vaught-Hemingway on Saturday was a hot topic among the fans on social media, so much so that Kiffin called it out during his press conference.
But for Washington State QB Zevi Eckhausm, it was the perfect tool to rub salt in Kiffin's wounds.
I don’t usually buy into this bs but the number 4 team in the country is in a 3 point game and this is what we’re doing https://t.co/XUPfyj40NW pic.twitter.com/iIrcSUQnav

The Wazzu fans had to travel over 2000 miles to Oxford to cheer for their team as they took on the toughest opponents on their schedule. In return, their team did not disappoint them one bit.
Trailing 24-14 against Ole Miss in the fourth quarter, Eckhaus' 19-yard touchdown pass to Freeman put the Cougars in a spot where just a field goal could tie them with a No.4 ranked team in the SEC.
For the fans, that moment was worth every mile of their hike, and they made sure that their team knows it.
"I heard the crowd louder on that play than the whole entire game, and that was just the segment of Cougs that traveled down for this game," Eckhaus said in his post-game conference, a subtle flex over Kiffin's comments of Ole Miss crowd disappointing them.
"We had installed a silent count for this game. We never had to use it," the Wazzu QB added.

That touchdown from Eckhaus, who went 24-for-31 for 218 yards and two TDs, made the Cougars' play an upset scare for the Rebels.
Part of it had to do with the Rebels defense taking painstakingly long to find its footing, that ended up with them giving up nearly 7 yards per play.
Any of it wasn't upto the Rebels' standard, as a frustrated Kiffin clarified post-game. Only time will tell whether he can actually execute the standard next week against Georgia.
