On July 12 former Ole Miss football head coach, Houston Nutt sued the school and more importantly, Hugh Freeze.

Per Sports Illustrated, the Houston Nutt lawsuit sites a breach of contract due to a calculated media campaign against Nutt. The immediate aftermath of the suit’s filing brought many doomsday claims.  The majority of the claims centered around Hugh Freeze.

Numerous media members claimed this would be the downfall of Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss.  Well, they were both correct and wrong.

The lawsuit itself did not take down Freeze; however, the phone records made public by the lawsuit did take down Freeze.

The records revealed a one minute phone call to an escort service, which Freeze played off as a misdial.  However, the call sparked a deeper investigation into Coach Freeze’s personal life by the University.

The investigation led to the discovery of a troubling pattern of personal behavior. The embattled coach’s deeds are so far unreleased, but are definitely catastrophic.

I’ll be honest, I did not think the Nutt lawsuit would impact Coach Freeze’s job security in any way, shape, form, or fashion.  Boy, was I wrong?

The way the lawsuit ended up taking down Freeze was Shakespearean.  The lawsuit itself was never intended to take down Freeze.  However, it released the means to do so into the public.  The ensuing days saw rumors running rampant around Oxford.

For what its worth, rumors have been swirling about Freeze in Oxford for years, which is not surprising because Oxford is, at its heart, a small town.  Finally, the university found damning evidence of Coach Freeze’s indiscretions.  Coach Freeze would later admit to his actions and resign, that’s good stuff.

Many will celebrate the end of Freeze’s tenure in Oxford.  His tenure has been marred in NCAA controversy and public twitter shaming by rival fans.  Tonight was Christmas for them.

So yes, despite my doubts, Houston Dale Nutt Jr. took down Hugh Freeze years after Freeze replaced him.  Maybe now we can finally be rid of the less popular Dale Jr.
