Each season as the Ole Miss football approaches there are those players we are ready to finally see play and they are the red-shirt freshmen.
2018 has the potential to be a very special year for Ole Miss football. Of course, we already know we have one of the best offenses in the nation and they’ll be fun for Rebels fans to watch this season. We also have to believe the defense will be much better in 2018 and we can seriously compete on both sides of the ball. Naturally there are gaps which have to be filled and each season there are the addition of new young players added to the roster via the most recent recruiting class.
There are also those players which have been on the roster for a year or longer but were red-shirts their freshmen seasons. Ole Miss is loaded with red-shirt freshmen on the 2018 roster and we are ready to see them in action this season. Here we take a brief look at five of those players. Two of the following players saw limited action in 2017 and were signees with the 2016 Ole Miss recruiting class.

We begin on the Rebels defense because that is where we really want to see the most improvement and we are anxious to see the immediate future players coming in. All three areas of the defense are represented by these three players.
On the D-line at tackle there is Sincere David out of Sandalwood in Jacksonville, Florida. David is listed at 6’1 and 337 lbs. David was rated as a 3-star as a signee with the 2017 Ole Miss recruiting class. David is very big but plays the DT position well and will be in the mix for depth on the defensive line. David will wear No.93.
We drop back to the linebackers position and there is Josh Clarke. Out of Riverdale in Jefferson, Louisiana Clark was rated as high as a 4-star prospect in the 2017 class by some recruiting outlets. At 6’2 and 217 lbs Clarke is very quick and strong as a tackler. Word out of Oxford is Clarke is having a great fall camp so far and will certainly see playing time in 2018. Clarke will be wearing No.32.
Rounding out the three red-shirt freshman off defense is a defensive back. Kam White out of Clinton is listed at 6’2 and 201 lbs and was rated a 4-star. White was originally a signee with the 2016 class and has red-shirted twice although he did see limited action in 2017 for the Rebels. White was a Dandy Dozen selection in 2016 and is a very exciting player to watch for. White should be able to see playing time if he has a strong fall camp. White will wear No.6.
Offensive Red-shirt Freshmen
We take a look at the future of the offensive line with these next two red-shirt freshmen. Since the beginning of the Rebels fall camp there has been one name which keeps resurfacing with every practice report. Ben Brown has stood out thru the fall so far and has captured the attention of everybody on the OL. Brown is listed at 6’5 and 300 lbs out of St Aloysius in Vicksburg. Brown should be a familiar name to Rebels since he’s a third generation Ole Miss football player. His father and both grandfathers are all former Rebels. His uncle, Burkes Brown, also played for the Rebels. Ben will be a fun player to watch and I believe we see him very soon. Brown wears No.55.
On offense we stay on the line and we want to see more of Tony Gray on the line this season at some point. Preferably sooner rather than later. Gray is another solid lineman who measures in at 6’5 and 300 lbs. Gray was rated a 3 star out of Grayson in Logansville, Georgia. Gray is another red-shirt freshman who saw limited playing time in three games in 2017 and is expected to be in the mix this season in the Phil Longo offense. Gray wears No.78.
So there you have it. There are the five red-shirt freshmen OHT wants to see on the field this fall. Of course, we have a very young roster when you divide it among classes and these five Rebels are just a sliver of the future. We hope for success for these five young men and the rest of the Rebels on the roster. Good luck this season Rebels! Hotty Toddy!
