The 2018 Ole Miss football season is getting closer and OHT is looking at players from each class we want to see have big seasons. Here are five sophomores.

The 2018 Ole Miss football season is rapidly approaching and while the Rebels are getting ready for their season opener, the fans are getting anxious. OHT has been trying to keep everybody jacked up for football by giving you a few articles focusing on five players from each class. So far we have looked at five of the freshmen and JUCOS from the 2018 signing class, and five red-shirt freshmen. Now we look at players from the sophomore class.

The 2017 Ole Miss recruiting class was a pretty good class with some very talented skill players in it. According to OMSpirit the class finished ranked No.31 in the nation but only ranked No.12 in the SEC. Still there were some very good prospects in the class and we are simply ready to see them in action and having big seasons. All five of the players we selected saw various levels of action in 2017. One player is actually a signee from the 2016 Ole Miss recruiting class which was the No.5 class in the nation. Three of the five are defensive players so we’ll begin on that side of the ball.

Sophomores On Defense

More from Ole Miss Football

We begin on the defensive line with an end who has shown a lot of promise in the Landshark defense. First we begin with Ryder Anderson who, out of Katy, Texas, saw quality playing time in 2017. Anderson is listed at 6’6 and 244 lbs and is certainly in the running as one of the starting ends for Ole Miss. In 2017 Anderson played in 11 games as a reserve and finished the season with 9 total tackles and 1.5 sacks as true freshman. Ryder wears No.89.

Next we fall back to the linebacker position. This is a position which the Ole Miss defense needs to step up the most this season because of thin depth. Mohamed Sanogo, out of Plano, Texas and at 6’2 and 228 lbs, has been having a good fall camp and is expected to see playing time in 2018. Sanogo saw action in 11 games in 2017 and finished the season with 8 total tackles. Mohamed wears No.46.

We round out the defensive side of the ball with a defensive back. CJ Miller out of Powder Springs, Georgia is listed at No.2 on the fall depth chart at strong safety. At 6’0 and 191 lbs CJ has both the size and speed to be very productive in the defensive backfield and should see significant playing time in 2018. Miller saw action in 4 games in 2017 and finished the season with 6 total tackles. CJ Miller is the 2018 Surprise Sophomore pick for the Ole Miss defense and wears No.8.

Sophomores On Offense

We begin on offense on the line at left guard. Bryce Mathews out of Brentwood, Tennessee is currently listed at No.2 on the depth chart and has had significant playing time in 2017 and is expected to again in 2018. The 6’6 284 lbs offensive lineman saw action in 7 games last season and in the fast Phil Longo offense will likely see much more time on the field. Son of former NFL great Jason Mathews, Bryce was part of the 2016 signing class. So far Bryce is having a good fall camp and wears No.71.

Rounding out the five is OHT’s Surprise Sophomore for offense. Braylon Sanders of Hogansville, Georgia saw playing in 2017 and it is believed 2018 could be a breakout season for the 6’0 and 188 lb wide receiver. Braylon saw action in 7 games in 2017 and finished out the season with only 4 receptions but they equaled 65 yards and 1 TD. This season there is a No.2 spot on the NWO depth chart which has Sanders name on it and his touches will increase significantly. Sanders is expected to have a big season so he should be fun to watch. Braylon wears No.13.

Next. Burning Questions.... dark

Well their you have it. These are the five sophomores OHT really wants to see have big seasons. The 2018 Ole Miss football season and the Rebels success is going to hinge on younger players like these five stepping up in games. Of course, we wish these players and the rest of the Rebels good luck this season. Hotty Toddy!
