While we wait for Ole Miss football to kickoff their season opener Ole Hotty Toddy is following NFL Rebels thru the 2018 preseason.

The days leading up to the 2018 Ole Miss football season have seemed to slow down instead of speeding up. Thankfully we have some NFL Rebels to piggy back on until September 1 finally gets here. The 2018 NFL Preseason is now halfway over and we have a number of former Rebels who have stepped forward in both their team’s training camp and the preseason.

While some younger NFL Rebels are fighting for positions and playing time there are a few starters we expected to see in limited action early. After two preseason games there have been NFL Rebels who have registered stats in the preseason and most of those are fighting to make the regular 53-man rosters for their respective teams.

Of course, OHT has been following some of the NFL Rebels in the 2018 NFL Preseason and have seen the success of several players. Former Rebels quarterback Chad Kelly has been very impressive in the first two games and has shaken up the Broncos depth chart. So far Kelly is 21 of 30 for 267 and 3 TDs with 1 INT to go with 4 carries for 37 yards rushing. Kelly has played well enough to become second on the Broncos depth chart.

Also having a good NFL preseason is former Ole Miss running back Jordan Wilkins who is now with the Colts. Wilkins has found himself on a very limited depth chart in which he has had significant playing time. So far this preseason Wilkins leads the Colts with 13 carries for 47 yards and has 3 receptions for 24 yards. Wilkins continues to impress coaches and should see more touches during the preseason in Indy.

Other Notable NFL Rebels

More from Ole Miss Football

While NFL veterans usually don’t see much early preseason playing time there are NFL Rebels who we have been keeping track of. Giants starter Eli Manning is a prime example when you look at his numbers thus far. Manning is just 4 of 7 for 26 yards but of course those numbers will easily go up with more snaps later in the preseason.

Giants tight-end Evan Engram has also been limited in the preseason only being targeted twice but has 2 receptions for 13 yards. Like Manning he is going to see more action later in the preseason and his numbers will increase.

This is also the case with Vikings wide receiver Laquon Treadwell who has only been targeted three times but has 3 receptions for 11 yards. Treadwell who is entering his third NFL season should see a significant upswing in playing time later in the preseason.

Seahawks wide receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow is another former Rebel who should see more targets later in the season. Stringfellow has been targeted 3 time and has 2 receptions for 20 yards. Patriots running back Brandon Bolden who is entering his 7th season has 3 carries for 35 yards and 1 reception for 9 yards. Packers running back Akeem Judd has 22 yards on 11 carries so far in the preseason.

Defensive NFL Rebels

The NFL Rebels on the defensive side of the ball have had a preseason much like the offensive players. There are younger players battling for spots on the roster and then veterans who haven’t seen the field much early. The Oakland Raiders Fadol Brown has been having a good preseason and has recorded 3 tackles so far in limited action. DJ Jones of the 49ers has recorded 4 tackles in the preseason. Kendrick Lewis who is now with the Titans has also recorded 4 tackles.

In Pittsburgh former Rebels Lavon Hooks and Mike Hilton have both seen some playing time in the first two games. Hooks has recorded 2 tackles while Hilton has recorded 1 tackle in the preseason. Derrick Jones with the Jets has also recorded 1 tackle in limited action. The Carolina Panthers DE Marquis Haynes has recorded 2 tackles and 1 sack while DE Breeland Speaks of the Chiefs has recorded 4 tackles so far. AJ Moore of the Patriots has recorded 2 tackles in his rookie preseason All of these NFL Rebels should see much more playing time deeper in the preseason.
