Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball were looking to move above .500 in SEC play Saturday night as they hosted the LSU Tigers in The Pavilion at Oxford.

Ole Miss basketball (6-4, 1-2) was back in action Saturday night as the Rebels hosted the LSU Tigers (8-2, 3-1) at The Pavilion in Oxford. Kermit Davis and the Rebels entered the matchup coming off a 72-61 home win over Auburn and were looking to keep momentum and go above .500 in SEC play. However, the SEC’s best offense was too much and the Rebels fell 75-61 to the Tigers.

The Rebels got off to a rough start Saturday night with the Tigers rolling hard. The Rebels had no answer for the Tigers’ offense and fell behind early 8-0. The Rebels couldn’t make shots in the first half and LSU led 39-21 at the break. The second half was more of the same and even though Ole Miss went on a 13-3 run late the Tigers held on for the win with the Rebels never seeing a lead in the game. OHT looks at the ugly loss by the numbers.

By The Numbers

More from Ole Hotty Toddy

The Rebels shot just .354 from the field while LSU shot .482 from inside the arc. From 3-point range, the Rebels shot only .308 while the Tigers shot .381 from beyond the arc. From the free-throw line, the Rebels shot .679 while LSU shot .813 from the charity stripe. The Tigers outrebounded the Rebel 35-32 in the game and edging the Rebels 20  turnovers with just 16 of their own. Each team had 11 steals.

Austin Crowley led all Rebels with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Luis Rodriguez and Jarkel Joiner followed with 9 points each. Rodriguez had 5 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 blocked shot while Joiner had 1 rebound and 1 steal. Matthew Murrell added 8 points with rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 blocked shot. Khadim Sy had 6 points to go with 1 rebound and 2 steals.

Dimencio Vaughn had 5 points with 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Romello White added 4 points with 3 rebounds and 1 steal. KJ Buffen and Sammy Hunter each added 3 points with Buffen also getting 1 rebound and 2 blocked shots. Hunter had 2 rebounds. Devontae Shuler and Robert Allen rounded out scoring for the Rebels with 2 points each. Shuler had 2 rebounds and 1 steal while Allen had 3 rebounds.

There is really no way to paint a pretty picture of this loss. The numbers are the proof and the Rebels were beaten in every facet of the game. The Rebels scored just 14 points off of 16 LSU turnovers while allowing 29 points off of their own 20 turnovers. The one bright side for Kermit Davis is the 35 points the Rebels scored off the bench. The Rebels started off the game shooting poorly and making costly mistakes that LSU capitalized on.
