Ole Miss Basketball: Rebels sweep No.24 Missouri on the road

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball were back in action Tuesday night on the road as they swept the No.24 ranked Missouri Tigers in Columbia.

Coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball (13-9, 8-7) were back in action Tuesday night on the road against the No.24 ranked Missouri Tigers. The Rebels were trying to rebound from a 66-56 home loss to Miss State last Saturday. The Missouri Tigers (14-7, 7-7) entered the Tuesday matchup coming off of a 93-78 road win over South Carolina.

The Rebels picked up the 60-53 season sweep over the Tigers and did it behind four Rebels starters who scored in double-digits. The game went back and forth early but the Rebels took a 33-24 lead into the locker room at the break. The Tigers battled back in the second half but just couldn’t erase the deficit created by the Rebels in the first half. The Rebels picked up the SEC road win. OHT looks at the game by the numbers.

As a team, the Rebels shot just 21 of 55 or 38.2% from the field compared to the Tigers who shot 20 of 57 or 35.1% from inside the arc. From beyond the arc, the Rebels shot 3 of 11 or 27.3% compared to the Tigers who shot 7 of 23 or 30.4% from the three-point line. The Rebels hit 15 of 19 or 78.9% of their shots from the free-throw line. Missouri shot 6 of 11 or 54.5% from the charity stripe.

Ole Miss outrebounded the Tigers 41-32 in the game and scored 14 second-chance points on 15 offensive boards. The Tigers scored 10 second-chance points on 13 offensive rebounds. Each team saw their bench players contribute 9 points. The Rebels scored 17 points off 13 Missouri turnovers while the Tigers scored 11 points off 13 Ole Miss turnovers. The Rebels outscored the Tigers 26-24 in the paint.

Leading all Rebels in scoring was Devontae Shuler who had 14 points to go with 1 steal and 3 rebounds. The three other Rebels who scored in double-digits were Jarkel Joiner, Romello White, and Luis Rodriguez who each had 10 points on the night. Jarkel Joiner added 3 assists and 4 boards. Romello White had 1 steal, 1 blocked shot, and 9 boards. Luis Rodriguez added 3 steals, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds.

KJ Buffen earned a start and finished with 7 points, 1 assist, and 5 boards. Off the bench, Robert Allen had 4 points and 6 rebounds. Matthew Murrell had 3 points with 1 assist and 3 rebounds. Sammy Hunter finished out the scoring for the Rebels with 2 points.
