The announcement that Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin were to make about their future on Saturday never came that day.

Instead, what Ole Miss fans got were information about Kiffin's meet with AD Keith Carter at UM chancellor Glenn Boyce's residence, and again, zero update about the situation.

Kiffin followed his talk-of-the-town meeting with another one with ESPN's Marty Smith, who said "Kiffin’s unwillingness to commit is an indicator of his desire to go," but with no official update.

Lane Kiffin updates decision timeline

After the flurry of events, Marty Smith announced the updated time for Kiffin's announcement.

"NEWS: Ole Miss sources tell me Lane Kiffin will hold a 9am team meeting Sunday morning, and have an announcement regarding his future afterwards," Smith tweeted on Saturday night.

Kiffin had previously addressed the players as well, when rumors started getting out of hand, but this time, the meeting feels decisive.

It could be Kiffin's final meeting with the Rebels' roster, given how heated things are in Oxford.

The pressure from Ole Miss for Kiffin to pack his bags ASAP if he wants to go to LSU is undeniable. Everyone is just waiting for the official confirmation.

And that is after Ole Miss's multiple attempts to get Kiffin to sign the contract extension.

The real kicker would be if Ole Miss allows Kiffin to coach the College Football Playoff after all this unnecessarily stretched-out drama. The Rebel Nation would simply, and very fairly, be outraged.

"I’m told that if he wanted to stay, he would have already said so," Smith added, echoing the exact same feeling coursing through the Ole Miss fandom since the moment rumors started getting out of hands.

We'll see when the Kiffin drama ends and we get to finally focus on the incredible season Ole Miss just had, and the potentially successful postseason they could have.
