Ole Miss Football: Five Things We Want See In The LSU Game
A Real Rushing Attack
OK, last week against Vandy we had a strong rushing game. This week against LSU we need to see even more of it. There’s no doubt we have a great QB and receivers but we also have a stable of running backs which have been under-utilized so far this season. In fact, last week against Vandy was the first time there has been focus on the Ole Miss rushing game.
To be competitive within the SEC, we have to have a rushing attack plain and simple. from a fan of football POV I’d really like to see Jordan Wilkins get more touches. Even coach Phil Longo has stated, Jordan Wilkins gets better with the more touches he gets. As OleMissSports.com reports,
"“I think a back like Jordan, the more you feed him the ball, the better he gets.” ~OC Phil Longo"
So how many touches should Jordan Wilkins get against LSU? I believe Wilkins needs to be fed on a regular basis. He should get at least 25 touches in my opinion. Of course, there are other backs in the rotation. However, 20 rushing touches and at least 5 out of the backfield as a receiver and Ole Miss can see success. You know Wilkins can handle the load and right now he is on fire. Feed him more!

It’s hard to look at the Ole Miss passing offense and find something to critique. However, there is one small issue we would love to see resolved this week against the LSU Tigers. I realize we have the best quarterback and wide receiver combo in the SEC. LSU realizes it too I’m guessing.
Don’t get me wrong I’m all about some passing and I believe AJ Brown is the best receiver in the nation. However, there are several other great receivers who I’d like to see become more involved in the offense.
DaMarkus Lodge has stepped up and become another favorite target for Shea Patterson. Right now Lodge is 4th in the SEC in receiving yards. I can certainly see Lodge getting as many looks as he has. In the Vandy game Van Jefferson and DK Metcalf only caught 4 passes. We need to see them get the ball more.
Also, there is a young receiver named Tre Nixon who I really want to see get more touches. Of course, Shea Patterson has 4 receivers in the SEC Top-20. When you have this explosive offense and this many weapons why not spread it around.
