The Defense

More from Ole Miss Football

OK, this is definitely the elephant in the room. On defense we have problems. Of course, the offensive minded former head coach we had in Oxford played a huge part in the negative effect on defense we see now.

However, we have a very talented bunch of defensive athletes who are beginning to mesh well with one another. This group has bent and there have been times they’ve broken, but they have gotten better from week to week. That is an improvement.

If the Ole Miss Rebels finish 5-7, 6-6 or 5-7. at least we haven’t gotten any worse than we were a year ago. However, I like our chances to finish at .500 or better this season. This defensive group plays with something we didn’t see last season. They play with heart. They give their all when last season we saw the defense quit.

For the game Saturday there were moments when the Ole Miss defense was dominant and still there is room for improvement. No stats here, this defensive group gets their best grade yet.
