Fall camp is in full swing for Ole Miss football and as the players condition for the season opener there was a good bit to be learned.

The 2018 Ole Miss football season is just over three weeks away and fans are anxious to see their Rebels in action. Of course, when the beginning of fall practice commences there is an air of excitement. The most hardcore Ole Miss football fans will milk every internet article they can to get a little insight into the program and where we might stand once the season begins.

Of course, before Tuesday morning there was very little to be known as the media had only had one real hour of access to fall practice. Tuesday afternoon there were a number of reports which came out of Oxford which allowed us to look a little deeper into the state of the program after just a few short days of fall camp.

What Do We Know?

More from Ole Miss Football

Well, what we do know is besides it being the first full practice the media was allowed to attend, it was also the first practice in full pads. And according to Chuck Rounsaville of OMSpirit there were a few other things we learned from this morning’s practice. First we found out it was the first day of actual full contact despite not being “super-heavy contact” per Chuck.

Apparently Luke is keeping the practices light in the heat to allow players to get adjusted to the weight of the full pads. Despite the lack of heavy contact coach Luke was able to see enough to evaluate them on their progress less than a week into camp. Per Chuck, “Through five days I don’t have any major complaints”, said Luke. “It’s been hot and we have put them through some tough practices, but they have pushed through and responded well thus far.

"“Obviously, when we talk about changing the culture, we mean a tougher mentality and, thus far, I can see signs of the team going in that direction.” ~Head Coach Matt Luke"

Fall Injury Report

Second there are no serious injuries. It’s obvious this is a well conditioned team and Matt Luke is pleased with what he has seen so far. However there are a few minor injuries which a number of Rebels have been dealing with. Matt Corral has been dealing with cramps while AJ Brown and Javien Hamilton are both dealing with minor hamstring issues. Jason Pellerin has a dislocated finger. None of these players are expected to miss any practice time because of the injuries according to Chuck.
