Ole Miss football kicked off the 2018 season with a big win over Texas Tech and it didn’t take long for some Rebels to get noticed and honored.

Last Saturday Ole Miss football opened up its 2018 season with an impressive win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. With the win it didn’t take long before a number of Rebels were being honored for their performances in Houston. One player who was nationally recognized was Rebels junior offensive lineman Alex Givens.

Earlier this week Givens was named to the Pro Football Focus NCAA Team of the Week for his efforts in the win over Texas Tech. Givens was instrumental in the Rebels win this past Saturday helping the Rebels offense amass 546 yards of total offense. Thanks to the help of Givens the Rebels also had their first single game 200 yard rusher since 2010.

Created by Neil Hornsby the Pro Football Focus is a group of over 500 analysts who monitor every player on every play in every game within the NFL and FBS. PFF gives each player a grade of 0 to 100 based on their individual performances. PFF watched Alex Givens in last Saturdays win over Texas Tech and gave the Rebels starting right tackle an overall week-one grade of 84.2 and summarized his game.

"Givens put forth a strong outing against Texas Tech, in both facets including in pass protection where he kept a clean sheet on 28 total pass-blocking snaps. Equally as notable, his run-blocking grade of 83.3 is truly indicative of the holes that were opened up for Scottie Phillips’ 204-yard day on the ground. ~Pro Football Focus"

More from Ole Miss Football

Alex Givens out of Nashville Christian School in Nashville, Tennessee joined the Rebels as part of the 2015 Ole Miss signing class. At 6’6 and 305 lbs Givens was rated a 4-star by 247Sports and ranked as No.30 offensive tackle in the nation. After red-shirting the 2015 season Givens would find the field in 2016. During his 2016 red-shirt freshman season Givens played in all 12 games making 5 starts at right tackle.

In 2017 Givens played in 10 games with 7 starts coming at the right guard position. This is a perfect example of Givens versatility at being able to easily play either position and perform at a high level. It is clear after Saturdays game he is very good at the right tackle position and his performance this season will certainly be vital to the success of the Rebels offense.
