Ole Miss Football: SEC Releases 2018 Coaches All-SEC Team

Thursday the Southeastern Conference released the 2018 Coaches All-SEC Team and Ole Miss football was well represented with five Rebels being named.

As the 2018 Ole Miss football season is now just over a week away everybody is getting ready for some college football. Of course, there have been a litany of preseason watch list and accolades which have rolled in for the Rebels. Thursday the Southeastern Conference released its 2018 Coaches All-SEC Team and once again there were the familiar names we have seen in the other preseason lists and a couple of new ones.

Five Rebels starters were named to the 2018 Coaches All-SEC Team on Thursday. Both junior wide receiver AJ Brown and junior offensive tackle Greg Little were First Team All-SEC selections which were expected. Senior guard Javon Patterson, junior wide receiver DK Metcalf and safety Zedrick Woods were all named Third Team All-SEC. Naturally all of these players are vital to any success Ole Miss football has in 2018.

As mentioned the accolades for AJ Brown and Greg Little have been numerous heading into the 2018 season. It has become quite clear these two Rebels are expected to have huge junior seasons which will likely land them early in the 2019 NFL Draft. Brown is undoubtably the best wide receiver in the country and Little is considered by many sports media as the top offensive tackle.

Brown enters the 2018 Ole Miss football season coming off an SEC leading 2017 season which saw Brown pull in 75 receptions for 1,252 yards and 11 TDs. AJ Brown has been selected to numerous Preseason First Team All-American Teams which include the AP, ESPN, Athlon, The Athletic, Sporting News and Phil Steel and also selected as Preseason First Team All-SEC by Athlon, Lindy’s and Phil Steele. Brown is also on the 2018 Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award and Biletnikoff Award Watch Lists.

Greg Little enters the 2018 Ole Miss football season off a 2017 season which saw him 12 starts at left tackle for the Rebels. Little finished the season with Second Team All-SEC honors. Already in the 2018 Little has been tabbed as a Preseason First Team All-American by The Athletic and Sporting News. Little has also been named as Preseason Second Team All-American by the AP, Athlon, Phil Steele and Lindy’s while being named 2018 Preseason First Team All-SEC by Athlon, Phil Steele and Lindy’s. Little is also on the 2018 Outland Trophy and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Watch Lists.

Third Team All-SEC Rebels

Wide receiver DK Metcalf, guard Javon Patterson and defensive back Zedrick Woods were all selected as 2018 Preseason Third Team All-SEC. DK Metcalf is coming into 2018 off a great 2017 season which saw him finish with 39 receptions for 646 yards and 11 TDs. Metcalf has already been selected as 2018 Preseason Second Team All-SEC by Phil Steele and 2018 Preseason Third Team All-SEC by Lindy’s.

Starting guard Javon Patterson who made all 12 starts in 2017 comes into the 2018 season with a total of 30 career starts. In 2018 Patterson has already been selected as Preseason Second Team All-SEC by Lindy’s and Preseason Third Team All-SEC by Athlon. Patterson has also been named to the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.

Zedrick Woods at strong safety is coming off a 2017 season in which he made 11 starts for the Rebels. Woods is one of the more experience Rebels defensive backs in 2018. Woods has made 25 career starts in the secondary and in his career has totaled 152 tackles and 2 TFL with 4 INTs. Woods finished fourth on the Rebels in 2017 with 64 tackles.

Now we wait as the days wind down and Ole Miss football kicks off the 2018 season in Houston, Texas when they will face the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Of course, we anxiously await seeing these and all of our Rebels get busy.
