AJ Brown, out of Starkville, Mississippi had a record-breaking 2017 season for the Rebels. As the leader of the infamous NWO Brown started 2017 strong and never checked up. AJ Brown finished the season with 75 receptions for 1,252 yards and 11 TDs. At 6’1 and 225 lbs Brown is savage at the receiver position using both his size and his speed to battle against opposing defensive backs.
Brown runs great routes and can be as deadly for opposing defenses on the short pass as he is as a downfield deep threat. Brown is believed to have the tools to be a premier receiver at the next level and is projected by many as the number one junior which is available in the 2019 NFL draft as well as the number one overall receiver available. It is very likely the 2018 season will be the last we see of AJ Brown in a Rebels uniform especially if he has another showcase season.
What To Expect This Season
Last season we watched AJ Brown wreck one defensive backfield after the next week after week. Teams desperately tried to find one on one match-ups to defend against Brown and we saw how that worked out. This seasons teams realize what they are truly facing with Brown and the NWO and it could be a nightmare for opposing secondaries. Ole Miss football fans can expect Brown to have a huge season despite potentially facing double or triple coverage which won’t stop him but might impact his overall season numbers.
Of course, the big-play threat which Brown brings in the game is not the only impact he makes. Drawing double coverage will be allowing other NWO receivers to find open spots in the defensive secondary. The distraction which AJ Brown will create will allow the other great receivers of the NWO to also have the chance to put up some huge receiving numbers. Coach Jacob Peeler also has some great younger receivers under his wing and they will also benefit from being on the field with AJ and should see some quality targets in mismatches.
The 2018 Ole Miss football season stands to be a great one for AJ Brown and the rest of the receivers in the NWO. Of course, we all want to see Brown on the field in action in the season opener in Houston against Texas Tech. Good luck to AJ this season. Hotty Toddy!
